VP44 Injection Pumps

The Bosch VP44 is the electronic injection pump on the 1998.5 to 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 24 valve 5.9 Cummins. When it fails you will usually see a P0216 code, hard starts, a dead pedal or the truck shutting off on the highway. We stock remanufactured VP44 pumps from Thoroughbred Diesel, XDP and Industrial Injection, plus performance and conversion options.

15X or 17X: which VP44 do I need?

• 15X (235HP Standard Output): 1998.5 to 2002 trucks with the automatic or 5 speed manual. Bosch numbers 0 470 506 005, 011, 015, 022 and 027.
• 17X (245HP High Output): 2000 to 2002 trucks with the 6 speed manual. Bosch numbers 0 470 506 014, 021 and 028.
• 1998.5 to 1999 6 speed (non HO): call us with your engine serial number before you order so we can confirm the right pump.

1 year or 2 year warranty?

Our Thoroughbred Diesel pumps come two ways. The YR versions (15XVP441YR and 17XVP441YR) carry a 1 year unlimited mileage warranty. The 442YR versions (15XVP442YR and 17XVP442YR) carry a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty, the longest we offer on a VP44. Industrial Injection remans carry 1 year unlimited mileage. On every brand, cutting or tapping the pump wiring for a performance module or stealth cover voids the warranty.

Stock replacement or more power?

For a stock or lightly built truck, a stock reman 15X or 17X is the right call. The Industrial Injection Hot Rod VP44 adds 80 to 100 HP but needs larger injectors (120 HP Race 2 or bigger) and a 150 GPH lift pump or larger. If you are done with the VP44 for good, the Industrial Injection VP44 to P7100 conversion kit lets you run a mechanical P pump (pump sold separately).

Protect the new pump

The VP44 is cooled and lubricated by the fuel feeding it, so weak lift pump pressure is the most common reason these pumps die. Replace a tired lift pump when you replace the injection pump, run an AirDog or FASS on a built truck, and watch fuel pressure with a gauge or warning light.
