6.7 Powerstroke CP4 Disaster Prevention Kits

The CP4.2 high pressure pump on the 2011 and newer Ford 6.7 Powerstroke has a known weakness. When it starts to fail it sheds metal, and that metal gets pushed through the rails and into all eight injectors. A pump replacement turns into a full fuel system job that can run past $10,000. A disaster prevention kit, also called a CP4 bypass kit, reroutes the pump's case fuel back toward the tank through a filter so the debris never reaches your injectors.

Which disaster prevention kit should I buy?

• S&S Gen 2.1: S&S built the original kit in 2016. Gen 2.1 uses all OE style quick connect lines, so you never cut the factory supply line, and the supply splits 25 inches from the pump so dirty case fuel cannot back feed. A billet return filter head with a Donaldson 9 micron filter stops debris before it reaches the tank. One part number fits every 2011 and newer truck. This is the kit we push most.
• SPE Generation 2: Factory style push on nylon lines, no cutting, no rubber hose and no PEX clamps, and it is fully reversible. Adds a contamination sensor and a clear, washable 20 micron return filter.
• SPE ExoFilter Gen 2: A return side filter for 2011 to 2026 trucks. Run it alone or add it to any kit. The clear lid lets you see debris before it turns into a repair bill.

Already had a CP4 failure?

If the pump already came apart, a prevention kit is too late. You need a disaster kit (Ford calls it a contamination kit) with new injectors, rails, lines and filters.
